My ZChip tuning experience on my 2008 Evo X

Ever since I drove my new EVO X cross country home to Florida from California in January, I have been looking for a simple and easy way to gain the most horsepower safely while still retaining my factory warranty. My car dynoed 259 stock on a mustang dyno.
I added Intake, Suction Pipe, Full Turbo back Exhaust, Upper Pipes, and Front Mount Intercooler on the car. I never redyno’ed as I ended up selling all the parts and going back to stock about a month ago.
I had been watching the forums and noticed all the different options for tuning, and felt I wanted to go with the Zchip and Forge MBC just due to the simplicity of the product, and the ability for me to remove it and go back to stock.

So I contacted TTP Engineering in Orlando, and spoke with Shane, then with Scott the owner and I decided to drive to Orlando with one of my buddies and had them install and dyno my Evo X with Z chip, and MBC.

Price:
I paid $439 for Z Chip plus florida sales tax
I paid $84 for the Forge MBC plus florida sales tax

Now for the amazing part, after the installation and setup, the car dynoed 342 HP on the Mustang Dyno, a 83+ HP gain from 259. They tested everything, and I watched them take the car around the block and was impressed to notice the front of the car just lifted up like never before. You could definitely tell there was power compared to before even with my old modifications.
The drive home was a BLAST, no check engine lights, no hick ups, nothing no problems at all.

I have owned some serious cars like Corvette 06 505HP Z06, a 01 911 twin turbo Porsche, an 05 STI, a 05 Viper Truck, 00 WS6, 02 405 Z06, the list goes on but… The difference from my Stock EVO X, and my Z-CHIP EVO X with MBC @ 24PSI is instantly noticeable, the “WOW” feeling is more like a “HOLY SH!T” and in no way am I comparing it to my 505 Z06, I am just saying this is exactly what I wanted in my EVO X. I wanted the fun, the excellent handling, and the increased HP yet stock feel. I am not the average Evolution Owner, but for the $500 spent I would definitely recommend anyone considering this chip or any other Tuning option to give Scott a call @ TTP Engineering.

I can tell you now that with this chip I have not set off any lights, not even the pesky ASC light which I am USED to get from my previous modifications. The Z chip is great as they included a cable and I was able to download the software once I got home that lets me to connect my laptop to it and monitor RPM, LOAD, and can eventually try new maps for reference.

I am trying to think of all the bad things with the Z Chip, and the main thing is decreased gas mileage, as there is no way I can get in this car now and not attempt a full throttle pull in any particular gear. Since Friday I have probably enjoyed the car more than the first 10 months owning the car. I do feel however if you launch your car often you will need a new clutch due to the huge increases in torque, and hp. I am not drag racing the car and do not launch it so often so I should be fine for a while. Also I wish they didn’t have to tap anything but its great that the location is so simple to find and is undetectable. They use a Positap which makes it easy to remove without any damage to the cable.

The performance gains are definitely noticeable immediately after the installation; I especially felt the difference in all the gears first gear, through fifth. The highway responsiveness is night and day from stock. Overall it was worth every penny, I am so glad I did not send out my ECU, for a REFLASH, and am happy I didn’t continue spending money on modifications.

Feel free to email me with any questions,

Thanks

Hi there,

I have only two questions with regards to your modifications.

1) What is the PSI increase on the Boost over stock with you MBC?

2) Do you have any wheel spinning with that much torque at the wheels?

Thanks.

1. Max Boost is set at 24.6 PSI
2. Even with my aftermarket wheels I do not get any wheel spin unless I am running hard on a curve or major turn.

So far no problems, just pure enjoyment!

Could you send me your zchip map or post in on the maps thread?

Hi Acewolf, did you put the zchip and boost controller on yourself and then have TTP. Tune it on the dyno. I just installed my zchip and boost controller today and it seems to be a little faster but not like crazy faster. Maybe I'm expecting to much LOL. Also are you ever thinking of or have gone to Moroso to test it out I would like to come watch. Brian Fort Lauderdale, FL

I drove to TTP, and they did everything. Well worth the 200 miles, They are great people. Give them a call.

Honestly I am not really wanting to launch the car too much. Just enjoying the additional HP without really abusing the stock clutch...

I don't blame on not wanting to launch the car much with your gains in Hp and Tq. I'm guessing your next mid or upgrade will be the clutch. Oh before I forget, if your up to a car meet. I'm ttrying to get more Evo X's at a big car show at The Tower Shops Plaza in Davie( university Drive and just South of 595 on the left side of the road.

The car show at The Tower Shop's shopping plaza is ever Friday and starts at about 5:30 pm to about 11. There's all kinds of cars there but just trying to get some more Evo x's out there. I'm the only one I've seen out there so far. What mods do you have done.

Z-Chip, Forge MBC and wastegate actuator, AMS cold air intake - high-flow cat - shifter bushings, Buschur upper IC pipe and the Zeitronix Dashdaq with ZT-2.

-Parts to come - all AMS motor mounts, Buschur lower IC pipe (again! lol) AMS's soon to be released Dual exhaust....(if Greddy doesn't release their Trust style JDM dual exhaust first) and Forge's BOV when TTP gets the kinks worked out of it first.

Well, chriso3030. I hope u get better track numbers than me when you go to Palm beach int raceway(Moroso) then me. I had the zchip and the forge boost set at 23 psi and a harman motive intake system. I ran 4 times with a best of 13.62 @ 103.4 Now I thought the car would this time stock. I know they sAy the zchip is good for 51 who over stock at stock boost levels but didn't show in my numbers.
