Print Screen=Capture whole screen to clipboard, then just paste into any image editing software (i.e. MS Paint)
Alt+Print Screen=Capture only active window to the clipboard
Shift+Print Screen=Print to printer
If you are using Linux, the GIMP has a screen/window capture option under the File->Acquire menu.
-Regarding the "pressing CTRL and then Print Screen"
Try it without pressing CTRL.
Does it do the same thing happen?-
*Earlier versions of Windows needed the CTRL + Print Screen*
:)

Thanks guys. I still couldn't get the ALT+Print Screen to work or any of the other methods, lol. But my snipping tool worked just fine.
